The purpose of the Field Education Kick-Off is to facilitate the integration of theory and practice for the academic year 2012-2013 by bringing faculty and practicum instructors together.
SCHEDULE
8:00 a.m. Continental Breakfast
8:30 a.m. Overview and Introductions
9:40 a.m. Breakout sessions: Field Instructors will gain a working knowledge
of the foundation and advanced competencies and practice
behaviors outlined in learning contracts and evaluations.
Concentration faculty will discuss learning activities from an
advanced context.
11:15 a.m. Lunch
11:30 - 5:30 p.m. Suicide Prevention Training: This training will discuss some of the
latest research and statistics. We will also review formulating risk
and level of lethality. There will be interactive exercises related to
how a social work student’s attitudes and beliefs can help or
hinder their ability to assess and intervene with a suicidal client.
This session also includes some role play practice around working
in triads developing safe plans with cooperative and not
cooperative suicidal clients. The presenters will review accessing
mental health resources for suicidal clients. Time will be spent
having fun with self-care.
12:30 - 4:30 p.m. PI Training Session 1 (modules 1-4): This session covers
the requirements of field education, the foundation and
advanced competencies, learning contracts and evaluations. This session is essential for those who have not completed this training series and/or are new Field Instructors. By the end of
session, Field Instructors will understand how to develop learning
activities that are matched to the competencies and the practice
behaviors.
